CHEC English Language Centre Offers the following ESL Courses

CHEC English Language Centre offers a range of ESL programs and English language lesson plans designed to meet your needs. Programs run from 5 to 50 weeks. Each day of classes you receive 4 hours tuition from qualified English tutors in class and 1 hour using self access facilities in the library, student learning centre or computing centre. Students can also visit classes at High School, TAFE, or Southern Cross University and you receive free Internet and e-mail access.

 

ACADEMIC ENGLISH *

Prepares students for further studies at TAFE or University. In Academic English you learn English skills which will help you to succeed in your studies. You learn how to understand a lecture and participate in a seminar; write essays and reports, understand academic texts and how to use university facilities such as the library and other study resources effectively. You can also prepare for the external IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination.

 

GENERAL ENGLISH *

Develops language skills for everyday situations. In General English classes there are dedicated English grammar exercises with a special focus on listening and speaking, as the main purpose is to improve your English conversation skills. You also study reading, writing and general English grammar.

 

HIGH SCHOOL PREPARATION PROGRAM * (including English for Senior High School)

Prepares students for study at an Australian High School. In the High School Preparation Program you learn how to communicate with Australian classmates and teachers as well as learning the English skills for High School subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Geography and History. You also receive regular homework and sit a monthly exam to test your progress.

BUSINESS ENGLISH *

Develops English skills in business communication situations. By studying Business English you learn how to communicate in English with business people from all over the world. You improve your ability to write letters and reports, give presentations, solve business problems, read and understand business information as well as socialise with business partners. Your teachers will present interesting and relevant topics in class to develop your language skills and the fluency necessary to communicate in international business environments.

 

ENGLISH FOR BACKPACKERS

CHEC English Language Centre at Coffs Harbour, is proving a popular destination for backpackers and students on Working Holiday or Holiday Visas. CHEC English Language Centre offers these short term holiday programs (1-5 weeks) for groups of students who wish to take ESL lessons while enjoying the many attractions and activities available on Australia's Holiday Coast. Can't travel to Australia? Then learn English online instead! The CHEC online ESL program offers students 12 month self-study and 12 month teacher-led online English classes. All you need to study English online with us is a computer and reliable Internet access.

Study at your own pace and join over 3 million other students who have successfully learned English with our Online ESL program. The fully interactive and multi-media driven learning program teaches students reading, writing, and orally spoken English skills from a complete beginner level through to advanced professional and travel English. Our online English teachers are fully qualified professional educators.

 

SUMMER CAMP – a multicultural summer program

This program is open to groups and individual students, who will have the opportunity to join with local Australians and students from various countries in a 2 week English and Cultural Experience.

Students are asked to bring national costume, instruments, songs or other cultural items, so they can share with other students and our Coffs Harbour Community.

The cost of $1860 includes 13 nights homestay accommodation with all meals provided, English classes and supervised activities. It does not include transport to or from Coffs Harbour.

The itinerary includes:

  • 23/7/07 Orientation, English Class, Coffs Harbour City Tour and visit the ‘Big Banana’
  • 24/7/07 English Class, visit to Pet Porpoise Pool (touch dolphins and be kissed by a seal)
  • 25/7/07 English Class, attend a multicultural concert, BBQ lunch and participate in afternoon concert
  • 26/7/07 English Class, visit Coffs Harbour Zoo (feed a kangaroo, touch a koala)
  • 27/7/07 English Class, Go-Karting
  • 28/7/07 Free Day with homestay family
  • 29/7/07 BBQ with all participating students and homestay families
  • 30/7/07 English Class, Muttonbird Island Walk, Jetty and Marina and Beach Activities
  • 31/7/07 English Class, Horse Riding
  • 1/8/07 English Class, meet Australian students at concert, BBQ lunch, afternoon ethnic presentations
  • 2/8/07 English Class, canoeing on local calm river (see nature at its best)
  • 3/8/07 English class and graduation presentation, souvenir shopping at Park Beach Plaza

HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS

Agents are given the opportunity to offer to their clients, a program which is held at a local school. We offer English classes at either government or church primary schools (students ages 8 to 12 years), or local government high schools (students ages 13 to 18 years).

Your students participate in English classes and are paired with a local school student (Buddy). Students and their Buddies then join afternoon classes on some days and on others, your students go on afternoon activities including go-karting, horse riding, bush walking, souvenir shopping, visits to the Pet Porpoise Pool and our local Zoo, fishing, boating, beach games and participating in the many water sports available at Coffs Harbour. Agents can choose from over 50+ activities for their groups.

These programs give students the opportunity to learn English and to experience what it is like to attend a school in Australia. Agent’s can design their own program and be given a quote on request. A sample program is shown below:

ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES

As the English Language Centre is located on a multi-sectored Campus (CHEC), we can offer Agents a wide variety of alternative English plus programs.

Programs can include TAFE or Southern Cross University lectures and experiences, where groups can undertake English and further their studies in related tertiary subjects, e.g. English plus Nursing; English plus Hospitality; English plus Tourism; English plus Marine Mammal awareness Training; English for Aviation; English plus Surfing; English and Sports and many more…

These programs are held at CHEC and can incorporate added activities, as per client requirements. (Please see the sample itinerary above). These programs are on a quote basis.

Students can also join our English Language Classes plus join a related program in the afternoons, e.g. flying training.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • The Length of the programs and tours can be as long or as short as the Agents and their clients require
  • All programs that are held at CHEC English Language College are quoted on a minimum group size of 12 students
  • Students should be 15 years and older
  • All students must have Travel Insuranceor Overseas Healthcare Cover (OSHC) to participate in any program held at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus (CHEC)
